ALAIN STEVENS · BACKGROUND
An unusual background. A forward-looking practice.
From the early days of computer-assisted investigation to practical software and education for independent users.
Profile
A practical perspective on technology
I'm Alain Stevens, an IT consultant working across technical guidance, software development and professional education.
Earlier in my career, I worked as a private investigator specialising in cybercrime — a role often described as cybercrime investigator — with a particular interest in digital traces and online information. That background continues to influence my approach to public-source analysis, documentation and data quality.
Since 2019, my focus has been on IT consulting and creating useful digital products. I no longer carry out named-person investigations on behalf of clients. My work instead equips people with software, knowledge and methods for their own lawful activities.

What this means for clients
- Awareness of how digital information is produced and interpreted.
- Software prototyping informed by real-world constraints.
- Clear explanations for both new and experienced users.
- A well-defined boundary between technology services and regulated investigation.
“My role is to make digital methods and tools more accessible, not to conduct the user's research on their behalf.”
